Christian Camping Leader, Ghana

Where were you born and where do you live now?

I was born in Accra and live at New Gbawe, Accra, Ghana.

How did you become a Christian and did camp play a role in your spiritual development?

I got convertedthrough the activities of ScriptureUnion, Greater Accra Region in 1986 while in secondary school. I was assured of my salvation in July 1987 through Bank of Ghana Christian Fellowship meeting at Baden Powel Hall, High Street, Accra.

My growth and development was facilitated through the use of Scripture Union Daily Devotional Guide (Daily Power/Guide) both at home and school. Again, Scripture Union School fellowship activities and annual camp meetings played a pivotal role in my Christian growth and maturity.

Tell us about your family.

I come from a polygamous family of 16 children made up of nine guys and seven ladies. I’m the eldest of the last woman my late father got married to. I have four younger siblings from the same mother – two guys and two ladies.

I’m married to Patience and togetherwe have been blessed with three (3) daughters; two biological and one adopted. Their names are Gloria – 10 years, Eunice – 9 years and Esther – 13 years.

What role(s) do you have in Christian camping? How have you been involved in CCI?

I have been involved with Scripture Union camping programmes/activities since 1990 till date. I have played the following roles over the period: Camp Secretary, Camp Banker, Camp Dormitory Officer, Prayer Tower Assistant Leader, Camp Counsellor, Camp Adjutant, and Camp Commandant among others.

I also served as a Secretary on the Greater Accra Regional Camps Planning Committee over a decade. Presently, I’m by the grace of God the Vice Chairperson of the Regional Camps Planning Committee.

I got involved with CCI through the maiden CCI West Africa Consultative Conference held in July 2015, in Accra. I served on the Event Committee as the Coordinator of the Conference and doubled as the Treasurer.

I’m currently serving as the Interim Treasurer of the West Africa Regional Committee.

What do you do on your day off?

I like reading Christian novels and watching Christian movies. I also sometimes get involved with counseling young would-be couples and sharing the gospel with people.

Besides the Bible, what is your favorite book?

Purpose-Driven Life by Rick Warren

What kind of music do you like? Any favorite recording artists or song?

Gospel music. Sonnie Badu (African Medley); Donnie McClurkin (Days of Elijah).

What is your favorite Bible verse? Any story that tells us why?

Matthew 20:28– “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

If my Lord and Saviour came to serve, who am I not to serve my fellow man freely and willingly? I’m naturally passionate about serving others and I therefore get very satisfied and fulfilled when I serve others both in Christendom and in the secular world.

The icing on the cake is 1 Corinthians 15:58 – I am always motivated to serve all because I know there is a reward awaiting me when I don’t give up.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

An admonition to serve the Lord faithfully and not to allow for distractions from others.

What else should we know about you?

I’m a team player, disciplined, an organizer, and friendly, hospitable, caring/compassionate, prayerful and love everything about the kingdom of God.
