Where were you born and where do you live now?
I was born in the Netherlands and my family immigrated to New Zealand in 1957.
How did you become a Christian and did camp play a role in your spiritual development?
I came to know Christ as Savior when I was 13 through an outreach program called the Greater Waikato Crusade and have been actively involved in Christian ministries and church life since then.
Tell us about your family.
I am married to Ngaire and we have seven daughters and four sons plus several others for who we are mum and dad, as well as 10 grandchildren.
What role(s) do you have in Christian camping? How have you been involved in CCI?
I first became actively involved in Christian Camping about 33 years ago when I joined the board of a small camp 30kms from the small town of Paeroa where we live on a life-style block. I am presently the chair of trustees there and have recently joined another member of the CCNZ family as a trustee. I also serve on the National Board of CCNZ.
What do you do on your day off?
Days off are a difficult thing for me so they tend to be part days and snippets of time during which I enjoy walking in a beautiful gorge just 10 minutes from home or cycling on a rail trail that goes past our home and out to that same gorge.
What kind of music do you like? Any favorite recording artists or song?
A favorite musician would have to be Eva Cassidy but I also enjoy Ed Sheeran. But what I love the most is reflective worship music.
What is your favorite Bible verse? Any story that tells us why?
A favorite verse that I’m preaching a series on at the moment is Proverbs 10: 11 : “The mouth of the righteous shall be a fountain of life!”
What else should we know about you?
I love being involved in my community and my wife and I have a bunch of groups - from sporting groups to schools - that we serve in. I serve as pastor at the local Bible Chapel and I also run a small dairy farm to help support the family.
