Committed to Memory

"I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than memorizing Scripture...No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your mind will become alert and observant. Your confidence and assurance will be enhanced. Your faith will be solidified."

A SLICE OF FRESH BREAD

A friend’s young daughter was determined to bake cookies for her family as a special treat. Confident that she could pull off this challenge without any help and without consulting a recipe, she busied herself mixing eggs, flour and sugar.

She had seen her mother do it many times; how hard could it be? Her mother didn’t consult a recipe; why should she? In the end, the cookies looked fine, but tasted awful.

Her mother didn’t look at the recipe because she had committed it to memory. Constant review and application engrained it in her mind and made the recipe a part of her life.

Psalm 119 tells us about the importance of committing God’s Word to memory and the foolishness of living life without the guidance the Bible provides. David says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life.” (Psalm 119:11,93)

More than bad tasting cookies is at stake. Look to God’s Word for direction and apply it so often His truth becomes a part of your life.

PRAYER REQUESTS

CCCA (USA) is searching for a director of Operations and Member Services to fill the position formerly held by Greg Anderson, and before him by Scott King. They would appreciate your prayers for wisdom in the search, interview and selection process.

CCI-Ukraine is intentional about working towards being a missional association promoting integral mission values among our camping communities. Christian camps have traditionally been serving where people--children and youth in particular--are in need and have been looking after both physical and spiritual needs of campers. Christian camping has a place in transforming communities. Starting May 18, they are attending Micah Global Regional Consultation for Eastern Europe held in Chisinau, Moldova, to learn, share and network with aid practitioners, missions, missiologists, pastors, civil activists and business people for a dialogue from an Integral Mission perspective. Please pray that this meeting will yield helpful insights for developing missional camping in Ukraine and beyond.

Please pray for the Steering Committee of the Christian camping network that is growing in West Africa.  Plans for the training to take place in Accra, Ghana from June 12-15 are well underway. Please pray for good recruitment of participants-that God would bring to the training the right people from different countries, who are champions for Christian camping in the region. Pray for Abi Mensah, founder of Beautiful Feet sports ministry, who will lead the training with the help of Excelsior Pioneers.  Pray that the team finds favor as they plan details and figure out how to best steward resources for the best returns for the Kingdom of God.  Pray too for a local team in Sierra Leone that is planning a subsequent training in Freetown for leaders in the country from June 17-19.  This is the first such event in the country and God has favored it with enthusiastic response. Pray that other neighboring countries can similarly mobilize local trainings for leaders who cannot travel to the regional events.

CC-South Africa asks for prayers for rain in the Western Cape Province. Dam levels are on a 20.1%. Please pray for their upcoming conference, attendance and planning. Please also pray for the outcome on a freedom of religion in schools court case taking place this week. Pray for FEDSAS as they represent the favorable side in this issue. Pray that whatever the legal outcome, God would still use His people to be salt and light in their schools and communities.

Please pray for the joint convention taking place this week (ending May 19) for CCI-Latin America and CCI-Brazil. Pray for the speakers and sessions to be encouraging and instructive, for safety in travel and for participants to be better equipped to serve the Lord and others in their ministries.

CC-New Zealand requests prayer for several upcoming events. May 23-25 is their New Managers Boost in Auckland. CCNZ has eight new managers and want to connect with them to support and encourage them. During that event there will be a CCNZ Executive Board meeting so the board members can meet these new managers. Please also pray for these three back-to-back events  this summer: Managers Boost – July 30-31; Rewire, a CCNZ Conference August 3-31; Marriage Retreat –August 3-6.

CCI-Mexico asks for prayer for their north sectional conference June 2-4 in Chihuahua. This is the second year they are doing sectional conferences, and is the first one in the north of the country. They are also working in the transition from an operative board to a policy board, which includes the hiring of a new executive director and lots of work just understanding what this means. They trust God is guiding them this way, but ask for prayer for His direction in every step they take. They have also recently hired their first executive director: Shawn Inchaustegui. Please pray for him, his new role and that God would continue to guide this ministry and their new structure.
