Freedom and Friendship

Posted by Dan Bolin on OA10er @ 10:38
“I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy as cause for withdrawing from a friend.”
Thomas Jefferson
This week, the United States celebrates Independence Day. On July 4, 1776, delegates from throughout the Thirteen Colonies signed the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson (Virginia) crafted the first draft. One of the signers was John Adams (Massachusetts).

Following George Washington, Adams was elected the second president of the United States and Jefferson the third. Adams and Jefferson became serious rivals. They disagreed sharply as to how the young country should develop.

Adams and Jefferson died on the same day, exactly fifty years after they signed the Declaration of Independence, on July 4, 1826. Though they disagreed sharply on methodology, they both wanted the best for their country and for each other. Adams did not know that Jefferson had passed away a few hours before; his last words were reported to be, “Thomas Jefferson survives.”

Proverbs reminds us, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17) When iron sharpens iron, sparks may fly. But the goal is that both will be better because of the interaction.

Don’t attack people, assign motives, or forget our common ground. Adams and Jefferson argued over the path forward, but never lost sight of their common beliefs and shared aspirations: “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Right, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

International Director - CCI Worldwide

CCI-UK asks for prayer to find the perfect replacement for Linda, their Finance Officer, who left last week. They are thankful for Karen, who is standing in, but need a permanent replacement who will fit in with the team and help the ministry continue to deliver for its members. They are also thankful for excellent board meetings this week, both of CCI-UK and CSCBG, our buying group. And finally, they ask for protection, great weather and God encounters for all those young people going on Christian camps over the summer, which start in the next few weeks.

The new board of directors of CCI-Spain is taking over their responsibilities. Please pray for wisdom as they guide the ministry into the future and all God has for His camps in Spain. Government paperwork is always complicated. Ask the Lord to guide Manuel as he finishes up some very needed work with the Government for CCI-Spain. Ask the Lord to take it smoothly through to the end. Pray for the camp leaders in Spain who are enthused about CCI, but have not become members as yet, that they would take steps toward membership.

Camps in Canada are doing staff training and preparing for up to nine weeks of summer camps. Pray that our camps are full, that we have quality staff who love Jesus, that we run safe programs and that God's name will be glorified in all we say and do.

Summer holidays have begun in Romania for the children so summer camps have started too. Please pray for all the camps happening this summer in Romania. That many children, youth and families will be touched by the word of God through camps. Pray for safety and favor with the authorities. Also please continue to pray for the director of CCI-Romania Andreas van der Elst, his pregnant wife and their little son Levi in finding a house in the village we work in. Prices are going up but God can provide!

CC-New Zealand has a Marriage Retreat for Camp Directors on August 3-6 with six couples booked already. Please pray the Lord would provide a way for all those who need to attend to be there and that the time would be encouraging and refreshing. Please continue to pray for the CC-New Zealand national conference taking place on July 31 - August 3 at Totara Springs Conference Center. Please also pray for CCNZ’s CEO Jenni Davies during her three weeks annual leave in Europe. And pray for the staff finishing off the last minute details for their national events.

Please pray for the upcoming CVA Leaders Forum on August 1- 3. Pray that it is a timing or learning, encouragement and blessing for all who attend. Please also pray that the CVA inaugural Outdoor Educators conferences, to be held during August and September, will assist the ministries and work of CVA members.

Please pray for the Board of Directors of CCI-Worldwide as they search for the next International Director of CCI. Pray for wisdom, discernment, unity and direction as they work to fill this position with God's choice for the next years of ministry. Pray for sensitivity and obedience in the heart of the one the Lord is calling to step into CCI leadership. And pray for current CCI International Director Dan Bolin as he seeks to finish strong and end this season of ministry well.
