A Heart of Compassion

“I do not ask the wounded person how he feels, I myself become the wounded person.”

Walt Whitman

A SLICE OF FRESH BREAD

Jesus headed for Jerusalem to face betrayal, torture and death. He knew the outcome but was committed to going through with His sacrificial demonstration of love.

"As He approached Jerusalem," Luke records, “and saw the city, he wept over it.” (Luke 19:41) If I had been in Jesus’ shoes, I would have been weeping over my own looming trauma, not their ongoing predicament.

But Jesus’ heart is different than mine. He entered Jerusalem for the same reason He entered the world. Mark records Jesus’ words: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)

A heart of compassion is a heart that weeps over the pain and tragedy of others—the pain and tragedy of today and the pain and tragedy for eternity. But Jesus did more than weep; He also sacrificed. Jesus’ broken heart was not merely an emotional response to a disastrous situation. It was the motivation to act on behalf of others.

As we approach the Easter season, let us have hearts of compassion for those facing pain today and pain for eternity. And let that compassion move us to sacrificial acts of love.

PRAYER REQUESTS

CCI-Ukraine teaches an Instructor Training Course (ITC) to develop Ukrainian instructors. On April 8 – 11 they are teaching an advanced ITC to give our 20 hand-picked instructors an additional boost in novel methods of teaching adults. This year their two key buzz words are Excellence and Maximization. They aim at equipping instructors well to teach with high skill, confidence and enthusiasm at their seven seminars this spring. Please think of this intense crash course this week and pray that their instructors will be inspired for their ministry.

The Christian Camping Community in Malaysia (CCCM) is working towards having two events this year to promote Christian camping to the Christian community in Malaysia. The first event is to promote CCCM at a Christian youth conference happening end of May. Preparations to meet-up with the organizers will happen next week. Please pray for a successful meet-up as CCCM is a new organization serving the Christian community and is currently not widely known. The other event will be to promote Christian camping to church leaders. A seminar or talk for one day is currently being planned to be held towards the end of the year. Please pray for God to provide wisdom to the committee to overcome challenges in its infancy stage to serve the large Christian community.

Please continue to pray for the West African camping movement’s Steering Committee as they mobilize and prepare for the training in Accra, Ghana from June 12-16. Praise God for several champions who have stepped forward to mobilize leaders already involved or interested in Christian camping in the West African nations of Sierra Leone and Nigeria. They hope to hold visioning events immediately before or after the Accra training.  Pray for the Lord’s leading, provision and movement as the West African team prepares for these events.

Pray for CCI-Spain:

  • Pray for the efforts of CCI/Spain in the country of Portugal.  Ask the Father to build godly relationships for His glory.
  • Pray for the new board of CCI/SPAIN as they take on their new responsibilities.  Ask God’s blessing on them and their families.

CCCA would appreciate prayers for their spring The Power of Camp campaign. This is one of their initiatives to raise the awareness and esteem for Christian camping. Through social media and other various media outlets, they want to see more and more kids get to camp. Pray for opportunities through media outlets and also our efforts at “inreach” with church’s and children’s and youth ministries. CCCA is also wrapping up our Sectional season gatherings around the country with just a few more to go. Pray that those who attend will leave encouraged and equipped in their ministries. Also, many of the CCCA camps are in the midst of the hiring process for summer staff. Pray that God brings the right individuals and makes the hiring process smooth and quick for each of these camps. A common theme for camp staffing needs is male camp counselors.

CCI-Albania (RrKK) is making plans for a conference at ERSEKA May 4-7 with Shaun Thompson speaking. The Theme is "EMBRACE THE CHALLENGE" of Christian Camping, seeing “challenge” as a positive learning and development experience. Pray for good networking, worship and Bible teaching, for a good attendance and great blessings, and for the steering group of Asim, Anila & Ann as they organize the details and invite leaders to come

CCI-Mexico asks for prayer for their north sectional conference June 2-4 in Chihuahua. This is the second year they are doing sectional conferences, and is the first one in the north of the country. They are also working in the transition from an operative board to a policy board, which includes the hiring of a new executive director and lots of work just understanding what this means. They trust God is guiding them this way, but ask for prayer for His direction in every step they take. They have also recently hired their first executive director: Shawn Inchaustegui. Please pray for him, his new role and that God would continue to guide this ministry and their new structure.

Please pray for El Monte, a Christian camp in central Mexico that may lose its property due to a contentious agrarian court decision. Although the situation appears very bleak by human standards, God is in control. Please pray for justice and new opportunities for a reversal of the current decision. Please pray for the staff to continue to trust God and for God to provide the peace, grace, strength, courage, wisdom and finances needed to face this difficult challenge.

CCSA asks for prayers for safe travelling for members during Easter holidays as well as for favor, blessing and safekeeping of an Executive member attending CCI Board Meeting during April.
